Why We Fight

(recommended)

Easily one of the best documentaries I've ever seen. If you can be bothered to use your brain for a whole 90 minutes, you'll act wisely and watch it.

With 120 seeds and only a handful of leechers, it should download quickly.

feedback required
I know that I haven't updated or commented much recently, but that's irrelevant. I'd like some book and dvd recommendations.

Book Categories
  • Photography/film/urban or guerilla art/anything art-related that you'd recommend
  • Politics
  • Anything non-fictional that pertains to the analysis of any aspect of society
  • Anything that pertains to theoretical physics or quantum physics
  • Anything that pertains to cognitive science
  • maybe a couple novels as well
  • anything else?

Dvds
  • All recommendations are welcome, though I'm most interested in good but obscure stuff that Netflix likely doesn't carry.

I love Amazon. Other than having available almost every film title ever made, you can buy 20 books for $20. All I can do is hope it isn't revealed that they engage in shady business practices or poor employee treatment.

p.s. I realize my book categories are broad and vague. Recommend anything.

bush's america
It was just revealed that al-Zarqawi, al Qaeda's chief Iraqi leader and a man magnitudes more violent and powerful than bin Laden, was caught and released by Iraqi security forces about a year ago. Apparently, they didn't realize it was him.

Of course, the White House is likely to deny that this raises questions of Iraqi competency. Their expected defense will be based on the sound reasoning that all towel-heads look alike, even to each other.

In related news, it was also recently revealed that, two years ago, President Bush shared Christmas dinner with Osama bin Laden, having mistaken him for Old Man Winter.

Is it just me, or does livejournal sometimes completely lose its appeal?
1st-Nov-2005 04:24 pm - New Yorker weekly caption contest
yes, i'm male
Every week, The New Yorker has a contest wherein readers submit captions for a captionless comic. Because I'm not particularly interested in allowing The Man to profit off of my wit, nor am I particularly desperate to have my name printed (I'm particularly not particular), I never send my captions in. But I enjoy doing them, so instead, I'll share them here. Everyone else can (should) post their own as well.

Here's this week's comic:

bush's america
Hahahah, dude,

What the FUCK?

Such comedians. I especially love the part where they joke about money and expenses. Although, the whole No Child Left Behind bit was super cute, too.

It was probably a good idea on the White House's part to not promote this. It was probably not such a good idea to leave it online.

Aperture for photographers, from Apple.

Perhaps finally a program that handles RAW files well? $500 is way too expensive for me; fortunately, I have no moral qualms downloading that which I cannot afford.

I was messing around with google image search, and, well:

(John Gotti mugshot)

(Tom DeLay mugshot)

Coincidence? I think not.

I have an inkling that Republicans would be fucked if they were actually targeted by the FBI to the same extent the mob was.

------------------------

I also came across some videos that are of that chick from Growing Up Gotti visiting John Gotti, her father, in prison. This type of voyeurism is second only to porn.

------------------------

Google image search can suck. When I went back to find Gotti's mugshot, I accidentally typed in "gotta" and this came up. (NSFW)

Dude... birthlove.com? wtf???

------------------------

Unrelated, but there's a documentary featuring Ansel Adams on PBS tonight from 9-11p.m. (E.S.T.). While most artsy people these days aren't as impressed by his work as their parents tend to be (not enough pretty colors... err, I mean, "emotion"), his unparalleled mastery of the technicals is indisputable.

Go ahead: try to dispute it. Make my day, bitch.
